|Print Version||Climate Change|
If you happen to fly over any major city or stroll into a savvy business, you may notice something green. Buisnesses and homeowners alike are opting for greener options in their building materials – literally. Although the technology has been around for over 30 years in Germany and other Eupoprean countries, it is only just taking off in North America.
So what is this green technology? Living walls. A living wall in your home or business has multiple benefits. It helps to moderate the climate in your home, it cleans the air and produces (of course) oxygen. Thus having the ability to reduce energy costs and consumption.
People are also using a similar idea outdoors and erecting living walls and roofs on their dewllings.
Here are just some of the benefits:
*1 m2 of grass roof can remove between 0.2 kg of airbourne particulates from the air every year.
*1.5 m2 of uncut grass, produces enough oxygen per year to supply 1 human with their yearly oxygen intake requirement.
With those stats. and relatively cheap costs, it is hard to pass this one up!

On top of the air quality benefits, living walls, and any lush plant life, brings a really psychological benefit to a work environment. There are few things as calming as greenerym, the sound of water and the smell of the earth.
And selim, don't be discouraged. I firmly believe with attention and pateince anyone can grow a green thumb.
