Honourable to the end, Jim Prentice finally threw his hat back into the private sector today, effectively acknowledging he had no further meaningful prospects within Stephen Harper's government.  Even so, he graciously complimented his former leader and cabinet colleagues before listing what he considers to have been his major contributions as a cabinet minister.

I've known Jim and Karen Prentice for many years.  They are both talented individuals; Jim's resignation opens up the way for the two of them to play productive roles within Canada's civil society once again.  I wish them all success in the years to come.

Elaine, why are you not talking openly about Bill C-36 now??  It is a matter that is absolutely crucial at this time. If it is passed, all Canadians's access to natural supplements and NON-GMO food will be drastically limited -- despite of the rhetoric you've been feed by Health Canada, and ultimately, Big Pharma and Big Agra.

Why, after being so vocal about the previous incarnations of this bill (C-51/52, C-6), do you now sit silent over this latest piece of shoddy legislation -- which is being fast-tracked in the Senate as we speak??

This Ministry has been the kiss of death for all who've touched it under this Harper government.  No wonder everyone wants to steer clear of this portfolio.  It is a lame duck Ministry.  (And yet, ironically, it is an area that deserves and demands the most attention).

A man with ambition, intelligence and a desire to do something with his time wouldn't be interested in sticking around.  I can see why he's leaving.  And why he's being snapped up elsewhere.

Frankly, I think he was a terrible Minister of Environment.  He was a disappointment, in fact.

His leaving (this early) suggests to me that the fault lies with the government in power and not with the man -- as many have supposed. 

Let's hope he can make up for lost time, since he did not do much at all as Minister of Environment.
