Flaherty Won’t Listen
Posted By Senator Elaine McCoy Mar 10 2009 11:06AM

Finance Minister Flaherty categorically refused to split Bill C-10.  He doesn’t want to hear from Canadians wanting their say on issues such as the Navigable Waters Protection Act.  Kady was live blogging in the Senate Committee Room earlier today ... we’ll post the official transcript later when it’s available.

Not a huge surprise.  And public criticism will be fierce if the Senate sticks to their guns and demands the bill be divided (or get proper vetting).

Yet I think it is the only ethical course to go.

Frankly, I'm not even convinced these various 'stimulus' packages are that effective.  If the economy is as bad as they say, then this is all a drop in the bucket and real, thoughtful and long-term policy changes are what is required.  Not thoughtless ditch digging.

I am tired of the agressiveness.  Vinegar vs. Honey, but they do not seem to remember that saying.  Why do our leaders continue to work in a divissive fashion rather than cooperatively?  I do not think that our collective Canadian mindset  has much more patience for this.

Why am I not surprised?  The thing about Flaherty that really blows me away is that he never even got a report from his Economic Advisory Council.  I don't think this man wants to listen to anyone.  Except, of course, PM Harper, without whom Flaherty would have no job at all.
